What Makes a Woman Beautiful According to God?
We are not getting any younger.
We all age.
There is no fountain of youth that can magically transform us into an ageless and timeless beautiful woman.
The fact is our hair will turn grey or white. We will lose muscle tone, our skin will sag, and our youthful looks fade away.
This sounds so depressing doesn’t it? It does it we are to only focus on our external appearance.
But yet, we are reminded in 1 Peter 3:4 that a quiet and gentle heart is beautiful.
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” 1 Peter 3:3-4
Inner beauty is considered an imperishable quality because it does not fade away, unlike the fleeting beauty of external appearances.
In order to see what God thinks on beauty we need to turn to Scripture, not the world or a fashion magazine.
A woman with a gentle and quiet heart is beautiful in the sight of God.
What does a gentle and quiet heart look like though?
Inner beauty is gentleness under control; the ability to tame our tongue instead of lashing out in anger.
A gentle heart is one that exhibits wisdom and discernment instead of reacting based on our emotions.
And a heart that is quiet is steady, not being tossed back and forth likes the waves of an ocean.
The gentle and quiet spirit is one that is steadfast in faith, unwavering in hope, and full of peace.
While outward beauty alone is not sinful, entirely focusing on one’s oustide appearance is considered prideful. Where there is pride, enters sinful behavior.
However, as women we need to dig deeper into the Word to see how the Lord wants us to live our lives.
When we choose to live our lives based on the Word, true inner beauty unfolds and the result is a gentle and quiet woman who is more precious than rubies (Proverbs 3:15).
Below are a few verses that show us what God defines as beautiful for women.
One who is “clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.”— Proverbs 31:25
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”— Proverbs 31:26
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30.
“Blessed is she who believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her.”— Luke 1:45
Ladies, it is wonderful thing to be attractive, but not at the cost of having an ugly heart.
In fact, as Christian women we should take care of our bodies, what we wear, what we eat, and how we dress.
It is simply wonderful to be feminine and know that our husband’s find delight in us. However, be warned to not overdo the energy, time, resources, and effort into your external appearance.
What makes a woman truly beautiful is her heart, her inner beauty. Yet as women, we often don’t think of ourselves as beautiful. We are constantly bombarded with images of celebrities and models who, according to other’s standards, seem to have the “perfect body.”
We need to remember that true inner beauty begins with the solid foundations of faith, love, and trust in God.
